Tim Sultan, 39, was born and raised in Tucson. He received a BA from the University of Arizona, an MBA from Thunderbird, and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University. Over the past 18 years, his experience has included a combination of business and government service.
After receiving his MBA from the #1 ranked international business school, Thunderbird, Tim served as Director of Global Accounts at AlphaGraphics. During his five years at AlphaGraphics headquarters in Tucson, Tim negotiated agreements with Fortune 500 companies, bringing millions of dollars to AlphaGraphics 350 small business owners. He subsequently served as Director of Strategic Alliances at WhereNet Corporation in Silicon Valley, Associate Partner at the Gallup Poll in New York City, and currently works out of his Tucson home-office as Vice President of the SAB Negotiation Group. At the SAB Negotiation Group, Tim helps companies and government agencies negotiate critical deals more effectively. Tim studied negotiation at Harvard under Dennis Ross. Ambassador Ross was President Clinton’s Middle East peace negotiator and currently serves as Special Advisor to President Obama.
In 1993, Tim served as an intern in U.S. Senator Dennis DeConcini’s (D-AZ) Tucson office. In 1994, while only an intern in the Political-Military section of the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, Tim was chosen to negotiate a SECRET démarche at La Moncloa (Spain’s White House). The Spanish government officials with whom he negotiated agreed to the terms laid out by President Bill Clinton and the agreement helped save lives in the Bosnia-Herzegovina war. Tim became fluent in Spanish during his two years in Mexico and Spain. He served on Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) district staff in 2002-03 and helped constituents with Social Security, Medicare, and Veteran’s benefits. The reward of improving people’s lives on a case-by-case basis persuaded Tim to attend the Kennedy School of Government in 2003-04 to better learn how to make lasting contributions in his hometown of Tucson. In 2004, he ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Congress.
Tim has worked as a volunteer with many local non-profit organizations in Tucson. Some of his favorite activities are listed below:
